Hydrocarbon pump station design in ATEX zones
Deploying new infrastructures within hydrocarbon storage terminals requires absolute rigor regarding safety and dimensional accuracy. For this large-scale project in an explosive atmosphere (ATEX) zone, IMAG'ING stepped in to design a new pump station perfectly integrated into the existing layout. Using the power of high-precision in-situ industrial metrology, our teams secured every phase of this complex piping study. Discover the details of this technical intervention.
Using 3D scanning to secure the layout of industrial networks
The main goal of this mission was to convert a preliminary design and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) into fully reliable execution plans. To prevent any risk of interference with active operational facilities, the site underwent a comprehensive laser scanning process to capture true field conditions.
The resulting point cloud served as the geometric foundation for the 3D modeling of several kilometers of lines, with nominal diameters ranging from DN15 to DN450. Expert in-situ industrial metrology makes it possible to validate routing feasibility, manage technical slope requirements, and position valves and accessories while strictly respecting the operational and maintenance constraints of the plant staff.
Reverse engineering and custom structural support design
In parallel with the piping network integration, the mechanical stability of the entire structure represented a major challenge for the operator. Our engineers managed the design and sizing of the supports and pipe racks needed to sustain the weight loads of circulating fluids.

Approximately 130 specific pipe supports were defined, modeled, and embedded directly into the digital model. At the end of this engineering phase, IMAG'ING delivered all isometric and support plans approved for construction. These high-precision documents enabled prefabrication workshops and on-site assembly teams to work with fully coherent data, eliminating costly adjustments during the final construction phase.
